Nan’s Birthday Cake: Caramel Drip Cake

I made this cake two weeks ago for my bestfriend’s grandmother, and did not have time to post it on the blog sooner.

This was my first time making a drip cake and I was really happy with the results. I used a basic vanilla cake for the cake layers, filled it with caramel buttercream and covered it with vanilla buttercream and caramel sauce.

Overall, I was pretty happy and already thinking of new ideas for my next cake!!

Today me, tomorrow you. Malta

My June trip, well end of June, was to Malta. Never been, Didn’t really know what to expect, so it was that more exciting.

Getting from the airport to your hotel/apartment usually sets the tone for how your holiday will start. And I have to say that this time around the transport was extremely well organized. I booked my transport the day before from Holiday Taxis, and the shuttle transfer to my accommodation was there, everything was confirmed, and even though my flight was delayed, it went smoothly after that. For less than £7,- I got a door to door return. Perfect right?

Red Velvet Cake

I love baking. Cooking and baking has been a part of growing up in an Angolan family. Birthdays, get-togethers, family visits, it all meant cooking up a storm and this is how my love for food started. As part of a traditional upbringing my mom would ask me to join her in the kitchen and help, this automatically also meant you got to be responsible for a certain dish. I mastered traditional dishes such as funge, mufete, and desserts such as pudim de leite condensado (don’t worry, they’ll appear on the blog soon enough).

Along the way I picked up a few favorite dishes of my own and I also enjoyed baking a lot more and started to experiment on my own. One of my favorite cakes to make is a red velvet cake. I have been asked to make this cake so many times, that I can say that it’s a favorite amongst my friends, so obviously it had to be my first food post on the blog.
